Mike McCarthy addressed the press moments ago. Here is a rundown of the highlights in case you missed the live conference.
Injuries:
The lion’s share of the questions were about injuries. Coach McCarthy explained that with it being Friday, they would have meetings and that he was hoping for continued good news on the injury front. Here is a quick rundown:
- Datone Jones was out of practice yesterday, according to the coach for “a very positive personal reason”. Coach McCarthy wanted Jones to be able to make that news known in his own time and his own way.
- TJ Lang is “Headed toward a start.” When asked what that says about TJ, the coach responded, “They’re lineman.” he added that the strength of this line comes not only in how they play but also in how they practice and their commitment to each other, he said it “Speaks volumes to each individual”. He also added that the best lines in football practice together.
- McCarthy was asked “If you needed Jake Ryan, could he go?” And the answer was “Yes”. Of course that is assuming there is no setback and the coach mentioned this as well.
- One of the most anticipated returns is that of Davante Adams, who is still looking to make an impact this year. Coach McCarthy said Davante is “Getting better… we’ll see how he goes through today”. And it sounds like Morgan Burnette is in the same situation with regards to playing in Sunday afternoon’s game.
Matchup:
The coach was asked a couple of questions about the matchup. One was whether he was Ok with defensive line if BJ Raji couldn’t go and might perhaps be looking to make a move. The coach seemed to take offense at the question stating, “I don’t know why would I even answer that question.”, he further explained that they would have a healthy team on the field Sunday.
Coach was very happy with the way Letroy Guion has stepped back into his role. “Letroy has jumped right into it” and “Definitely beeen a presense”, which may be important in Sunday’s game if BJ can’t go.
The coach was not concerned that the team was “middle of the pack” (18th) in third down conversion percentage. And indicated that they were giving no special attention to third down conversion rates. Coach reiterated that the team was 5-0.
Let’s look for them to keep it that way going into the bye week.
Go Pack!
A bit disappointing how he side stepped a valid question about Raji. Our D is much better with him in there, and Guion fresh with limited snaps. As last week proved again, late in games without Raji, our run D and pass rush aren’t the same.
