Michael Bennett has been considered by most to be a second round pick, largely due to his size. At under 300 pounds, he is less than ideal to be an edge rusher, much less a DE in a 3-4 in the NFL. But Michael may have moved up draft boards after a fine Combine performance. Bennett (6’2″ 288 lbs) don’t do justice to his ability to get up the field and his overall power.
Bennett has been compared to Mike Daniels and could be a welcomed addition to a Packers team that needs help inside. And in a 3-4 defense, players on the defensive ends are a big part of the run stopping ability of the defense, taking on blockers to free up the LB’s. Of course, that does not seem to play to Bennett’s strength of getting after the quarterback but in the Packers scheme, the DL’s occasionally get their chance.
Bennett’s strengths are his burst, disruptiveness, and ability to get low. He has been criticized for being a little bit “on again, off again” but with the right coaching, training, and players around him, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Again, everybody in Packernation seem to be fixated on an ILB for the Packers in the first round. While that would be great, it would be better to add a better player and then pick up an ILB in the second rather than make a reach.
Go Pack!
I think Danny Shelton is the better choice if he is available.
Unfortunately he will be long gone unless GB trades up. He’s expected to be a top 20 pick. Great player
There are so many prospects this year that better fit our scheme… And most will be available in the 1st round. Green Bay changed from the giant immobile space eaters to a faster more active line. This year features some great fits for there defense line if they decide to go that route… J. Philips, M. Brown, E. Goldman, A. Armstead and C. Davis are just a few and that doesn’t even include the blue chip prospects. Maybe if Bennett is around in the 2nd or 3rd round they might take a chance on him being able to stick but highly unlikely for the 1st round
