Post Game Rant and Rave: Miami Miracle

Ok, I lost 10 years of my life during this game and I’m a old man that can’t afford to lose thoseAaron Rodgers precious years lol. What a game!

Raves

2014 Packers DefenseI was very impressed with the way the defense played even though you could see them tire late in the game from the heat they still made plays when the game was on the line.
Turnovers are what won this game, along with time of possesion (T.O.P.) Without both of those this game could have gone the other way and of course Aaron Rodgers! What other QB could have done what this man did? The way he controls this offense and extends plays… he is just amazing.
How about the new kid Adams? Did this young man have a game or what? He is getting Aarons trust each and every game and I think it will be hard for Boykin to take his #3 away from him now.
Offense played so so in my opinion! Sure they came out and scored on the first drive but after that they went stale until the end when it all was on the line then they stepped up once again.

Rants

I have a ton. Even though they won this game it was not a pretty win by any means!
The offensive line was horrible, Aaron was sacked or rushed way too many times and they could not open a hole to save their lives for the run game.
Brad Jones needs to be in the unemployment line soon as they get back to Green Bay, This man can not play, He misses tackles and when he does make a play its by accident because his big head got in the way! The one time he gets pressure on the QB he gets a penalty. Lets pray that Lattimores neck injury is just a stinger and can return soon but if not I would rather see Bradford play instead of Jones myself.
Where was the pass rush this game? Matthews was not even a factor, He swatted one pass WooHoo that was worth 20 plus million dollars right there! Sorry but if this man is being paid the big bucks to get to the QB then he needs to put a better effort into his game. He just doesn’t look like the same guy we all put our hopes on.
Injuries to both corners really hurts this team I hope they are not to serious because if they have to rely on Bush this team is in trouble.
McCarthy’s play calling amazes me at times. He comes out with short passes to start the game and walks it right to a TD then after that it looked like he went to another book. Why? If it worked on the first drive then why change things up?
I could go on and on about things I did not like about this game even though it was a win but I would like to hear what you have to say, so drop me a line in the comments section below.
Thank you
Jeff

There’s no such thing as a bad win,the Packers would not be denied. The goal line stand after the blocked punt was enough to let me know that the Packers would win this game.Go Pack Go.

I agree Chuck but it was not a pretty one is all I am saying lol. The team has a little more work to do if they plan on making a run for the big one this year IMO.

Was AAron really sacked that many times? I remember once only, though I did leave for a few minutes in the last quarter. . . .
Why would McCarthy change the play-calling? Maybe not to be too predictable. . . . Isn’t it possible the opposing teams will get what we’re doing if we do it too much?

It will never be exactly perfect, will it?

Now, my big question is, can we beat Carolina? Already the betters say YES. :)

Angrea yes Aaron was sacked more than once and he was on his back multiple times from taking hits after the fact so thats why I said the O line was horrible this game. And I agree MM needs to change it up to keep the defense guessing. But the short game was working and I am sure he has more plays than what he showed in one drive in the books! All I am saying is why not stick to what worked?

My remarks are pretty much the same as yours Mark. I have been disappointed with Matthews play from the start this year. He needs to play waaay better than he has to justify his huge salary. Brad Jones? Right on Jeff. I am worried about the upcoming Carolina game. Number 1 could have a big day!

I think Mathews gets burned on the read option too much. He’s an OUTSIDE line backer, stay OUTSIDE. The guys in the middle have their jobs, he should stick to his. Just my opinion.

McCarthy play calling is half the problem I think. and the offensive line has got to do a better job protecting Rodgers, but Rodgers cant expect to have 1 or more min. every time he passes. he has to move around and when has nothing either throw away or decide to run and run, not stop run stop run. I hope they can beat Carolina. gonna be a tuff one

I was at this game. The place filled with packer fans. Everone said the same thing. Why is McCarthy so intent on running the ball. When there no holes. Go back to what got us to the SB. LIttle short pass in place of the run. Everyone seen what happend when u let Aaron improvise and hes calling the plays from the line.

I voted in the poll that this would be a close game, Packers win by less than 7. So I was not surprised by the final score. But I’d given up hope of a win when Miami had the ball with 4 mins left on the clock and Hawk fell down resulting in another first down. We had not stopped their offense in the 2nd half, and they had shut down our offense since the opening drive. Luckily the Phins also tried to force the run game instead of putting us away. The Phins have a stout front D line, and these are the types of teams we struggle with. Hard to imagine us beating the Panthers with our O-line, and their offense is much better than Miami’s. Our play calling remains a problem. We are not a SB contender until these problems are fixed.

I agree with a lot of this:
The turnovers kept us in this game. Without the turnovers we are beaten soundly by the Phins.

Our O-line has been terrible since the start of the season and isn’t showing improvement.

Matthews hasn’t been a factor in a very long time.

Brad Jones doesn’t make the roster on most teams and shouldn’t be on ours.

A few things I disagree with:
Some of that play calling was Rodgers audibles at the line which were the wrong reads, or the D also changed their coverage, resulting in stuffed run plays or not having receivers in short routes.

Rodgers had receivers open on short routes that he often ignored. He looks for the big play too often, resulting in sacks and running for his life to extend plays.

    My rants:
How can an up tempo offense run out of time on the play clock resulting in wasted time outs? That almost cost us dearly at the end.

Harris still brings balls out of the end zone from 7 yards deep – he is not a kick returner and was fortunate to not be tackled at the 10.

The way Rodgers calls out blocking assignments on every single play resembles Peyton Manning calling plays as well as blocking assignments at the line – there’s no QB I can’t stand watching as much as Peyton Manning, and Rodgers is becoming that for me.

Rodgers’ clock management over the last 2 mins of the game was terrible. He cannot take sacks in that situation, and almost fumbled away the game because he does. That part of his game still resembles a rookie. Because it worked, we’re all happy that he faked the spike with a pass to Adams, but it came very close to not working and that would have been the end of the game had Adams been tackled in bounds – wasting 17 seconds.

Our O-line is so bad that not only did we give up sacks and fail to open holes for the run game, but we also got a punt blocked! No way a defender should ever have a clean run to the punter.

McCarthy still calls plays to the level of our opponents, has no killer instinct to put teams away. Every time we get a lead he resorts to forcing the run game. Both Rodgers and McCarthy need to stop calling run plays to flat footed RBs in the shotgun formation. Ds are too big and fast for that without an exceptional O-line, which we don’t have. Better off taking an incomplete pass than a loss on those runs.

We still missed too many tackles on D.

Clay Matthews should be trade bait – hasn’t been a factor all season and can’t remain healthy. He’s been a bigger liability than asset as he still takes himself out of plays by failing to get around the edge on speed rushes or not reading the blocks correctly when they give him the inside. The read option relies upon reading the OLB. If Matthews simply holds his ground, the QB can’t make a read. But when Matthews is overly aggressive around the edge or in the middle, he makes the QB’s job very easy.

Finally, we dominated time of possession by 37:12 to 22:48 – and still our D looked tired in the 2nd half. I realize that heat takes a toll, but we should be in shape to play a 75 minute game, and apparently struggle to finish a 60 minute game. No excuse for that. Miami’s D looked very good all game long.

    My raves:
    Jordy Nelson – just wow!

Adams is getting more involved and making great plays after he’s secured the catch.

Our D continued to generate turnovers.

    Our opening drive was great.

Our last minute drive resulted in a win.

At times we got great pressure on their QB (now if only we could tackle him for sacks).

Overall: I wasn’t surprised that this was a close, hard fought game. I’m happy that we got the win and to see our offense drive down the field at the end of the game for the winning score, but it shouldn’t have come to that. I’m not seeing improvement in the areas needing it most (O-line, run game, Rodgers not taking sacks, consistently moving the ball with short passes, kick return coverage and our kick returns, tackling, and generating pressure on opposing offenses consistently). There’s still a long way to go in the season, but we need vast improvement to be in the SB contenders conversation. If either Shields or Williams are out for long, let alone both, hard to imagine us slowing down or stopping opposing offenses. Go Pack go!
