I am going to start with rants because I am not happy with a few things the main one being the injury to Nelson. This is why I hate preseason games I know it’s suppose prepare the starters for the opening game but when you lose a star player in a meaningless game it really hurts the future of the team. It’s not confirmed yet but the initial report is a torn ACL and that would mean season ending for the best receiver on the team. Without Nelson it will fall on Adams to step into the #2 spot behind Cobb and the rookies like Janis, Montgomery, White and hopefully Abbrederis can step up their game, I know losing Nelson is a big blow to this team but it’s not as bad as losing Rodgers, he can make any of the aforementioned players look good. I suppose this is why Ted Thompson stacks this team with wide receivers. But I won’t jump the gun just yet and wait for confirmation tomorrow after they get the results from the MRI { Fingers Crossed } it is good news!
If yesterday’s performance did not convince Mike McCarthy that Don Barclay is not a starting tackle after his performance this game then he is blind. the man has no athletic abilities to play the position and after giving up two sacks they’re lucky Rodgers is not on the injured list as well. With his body type and physical ability he is best suited to play guard plain and simple! I would rather see Tretter in at tackle than Barclay!
Special teams still looks atrocious. There are way too many mistakes being made on both returns and coverage, Mastay is a BUM and they need to bring back the rookie before someone snatches him up and release Mastay! I still don’t know why McCarthy released the kid before he had a chance to play in a preseason game… anyway he was booming punts in camp. I like Janis but he is not a punt returner and Montgomery needs to stop running east/west and start going north/south when returning kicks so all in all they need a lot of work with special teams if they want to improve their chances at a Super Bowl run.

When you have a game like this you tend to focus on what went wrong and overlook the good things but there were lots of things the defense did well. Randall showed he can play in the NFL and recorded his first INT this game, HHCD looked better this game with some physical tackles at or behind the line in the run game, Elliot continues to stamp his number on the 53 along with some of the other rookies like Hubbard, Bradford, Ryan etc. that played a solid game.
The third stringers on the other hand just showed why they are third stringers but I’m not to worried about wins and losses in preseason so what matters is the first half when the #1’s & 2’s played and showed fairly well what this team will look like on the defensive side after the cuts. The offense looked stellar on the first drive even after Nelson went down they moved the ball with ease and scored. Lacy is going to have his best season if these last two games are any clue to whats ahead for him. The man is by far the best running back this team has has since Ahman Green! Well let packernation know your thoughts on the game but try and be civil I know this game did not turn out the way we would have liked
Thanks, Jeff

It is sad that Jordy was lost in a preseason game. But, I also see that this was an injury that he could have done hopping off the tractor at his family farm, running and playing with his children or even at practice. I really don’t care for preseason games, they can be boring but I watch them to see how the 2nd and 3rd strings have improved and the new drafts coming in. I see the preseason games as a dress rehersal to get players back in the game mode and to help make decisions on what players to cut. No, they don’t count towards anything but they do help in some ways.
Best of luck to Jordy! Can’t wait until he can return to the game!
I completely agree with Kathy. This injury could have happened anywhere, anytime. It had nothing to do with it being a preseason game. Jordy jumped needlessly for a pass while wide open, came down awkwardly, and seemed unaware that no defender was near him as he attempted a needless cut. I’ll add that Rodgers wasn’t very accurate on a simple route.
I think preseason games are critical to getting timing of the team down pat. It’s obvious that our red zone timing, pass protection, and backup positions are still works in progress and not ready for prime time. I’d much rather work out these kinks in meaningless preseason games than in meaningful regular season games.
I didn’t find much to rave about in this game, and so much to rant about that I wouldn’t know where to start. I’ll save my criticisms for the regular season. And I expect play calling throughout the preseason to be vanilla, rather than give anything away prior to the season. It’s far too early to judge how good or bad our team will be at this point. Go Pack go!
It’s really tough losing a great player like Jordy Nelson, especially in a pre season game. We looked pretty good in the first half and I liked seeing how Tolzien has improved but the wheels fell off in the second half. Not sure if I like the decision to not have McCarthy call the plays. Definitely need improvement on special teams. Still hope for a great year! Wish Jordy Nelson the best and a speedy recovery. Will miss you greatly!
