When Did You Become a Packer Fan?

Generations of Packer FansI was born into a fanatical Packer family. Green and gold was running through my umbilical cord when I exited the womb. My first word was “truck,” but my second was “Go Pack Go!” If you asked what my favorite color was it was green… and gold. I learned to throw a football before I could even lift a football. For our family, a week was not measured in seven day increments. A week was the length of time from one Packer game to the next Packer game.

Growing up a Packer fan in the 1970s and 1980s sucked… and was so awesome, all at the same time.

Not everybody was born a Packer fan. Some, in their deep wisdom, became Packer fans later in life. We want to hear your story Packer Nation. When did you become a Packer fan? Who were your Packer influencers?

One of my first memories is sitting on my grandpa lap watching the Packets play. He would yell at the tv when there was a fumble, or missed play, and would say old man Lombardi, would not stand for that missed play or pass. Each game that me and my family now watch reminds me of him, and my love for him. I miss him dearly

I was born in Green Bay and I can’t remember a time when my Grandpa, my Uncle Ed and my Dad were not Packer fans. My dad tells stories of going to the Packer games in the 1930s with my Grandpa at old city field. I grew up in Chicago land and remember that we listened to the Packers on WTMJ out of Milwaukee when my Dad turned the radio to just the right spot in the family room. Been married to a Bears fan for 40 years (next month) and will never give in to his challenges of becoming a Bears fan. GO PACK GO.

It was 1990, I lived on Long Island, NY with too many Jets & Giants fans. I couldn’t stand them the way they talked about there team being better then everyone else. Then Green Bay Packers just beat the SF 49er’s and Don Majkowski was the Quarterback. The “Majic man” was my favorite football player and I loved the the way the Packers played! I have been a huge fan ever since. Go Packers GO!
Now, I live in MD with Ravens and Redskins fans, but I have my life size Packer player, cheesehead and Packers pictures all over the gym at the school I teach. I love GB!!

For as long i can remember my father quoted Lombardi every time he could, he loved the winner mentality. So i was pretty much born a Packer fan.

I became a Packer fan when George Halas forced the then Chicago Cardinals to leave Chicago so he could have it all for himself. I lived on Chicago’s South Side and I simply moved my allegiance North, much further Diversey Ave, all the way to Green Bay. Never regretted that decision.

When I was little I cannot remember a time before my Mom & Dad would go with my Aunt & Uncle to every home game. They would tell me the stories of being able to hear Lombardi yell at the guys coming to the sideline from their seats in the corner of the endzone. My favorites are still Bart Starr, Jim Taylor and Paul Horning. Travis Williams, Willie Wood Elijah Pitts, Herb Adderly and all the names come flooding back.

Im 17 years old. I’ve been a packer fan since i was 5 uuears old. I was raised putside of Chicago. I grew up in a Bears family. Once i started to watch football on sundays i would always say to my mom “I dont like the bears. I like the team thats green and gold.” My mother would gave me a death stare and my uncles were outraged. They all would try to convince me that the bears were better but i would always say “3 is better than 1″. The packers had 3 super bowls and bears only had one. As a kid i always pick the team who wins the most. As time went by i became more intrested in the packers. Every sunday my family came together to watch football. I always looked forward to only 2 games. Packers vs Bears. Everytime the two teams play my family sat on the couches and comfy chairs and made me sit on the floor in the corner haha. I enjoyed it becuase most of the time the packers won. When the bears went to the super bowl i remeber how my family ignored me after the game. And once the Packers went to the super bowl my family couldnt wait to see us lose. But that wasn’t the outcome. Haha. You can say my family ignored me, harassed me, and even said i was a disgrace to rhe family. Now i knew they didnt mean it but I supported the team they hate to death haha. I knew it was just a joke. But i enjoyed it. I couldn’t be happier with anyother team. I love my Packers, win or lose, to death. Go Pack Go!!!

I think I became a Packer fan when I was 12, 70 yrs. ago. I was impressed with the fact that Green Bay was such a small city and I loved an underdog. I was a frustrated jock. As a Freshman in Peru, Indiana High school, I was 5’2″ and weighed about 110 lbs. Tried Basketball and was too small. Didn’t try Football, I knew better. but anyway, I always felt like an underdog so I became a Packer fan and then along came the best football coach ever Vince Lombardi which cemented my feelings for the Packers. It was tough because Peru had Bear fans. I eventually taught school at Valparaiso High School which was Fuzzy’s College town. Anyway I have been a strong Packer fan ever since. I even got my Wife of 59 yrs to be a packer fan.

The fact that GB is a small market makes me all the more proud that the Packers are so powerful.

Some interesting parallels with us. I was born in Peru, IN in ’59 (Dad was painting high towers there at the time). We moved back to his home state of WI when I was about a year old. I was 4′ 10″ and 88lbs by the end of my freshman year, but 5′ 9″ and 150lbs by the end of sophomore year. I still played tackle football in grade school though, without pads, on grass and in the street. I grew up with Lombardi’s Packers on Grandma’s TV. Congrats on your long marriage and converting your wife. My Dad was never able to convert my Mother, whom was born in Detroit and was a Lions fan. :)

I became a Packer fan the day that I married my wife (1990). She is from Central Wisconsin & I am from Southern Ontario (Canada). I am a HUGE CFL Football fan, but once that season is over (November) I bleed green & gold !! Due to geographical proximity – I was a Buffalo Bills fan & also strayed into Broncoland every so often. Lived through some lean (Majkowski) years in the 90’s before “Misissippi” came to Titletown !! NEVER looked back !! Thank goodness for the green & gold !!

    GO PACK GO !!!

I was born in ’56 and my Dad controlled the one TV in our house. He was a Bears fan and the Bears were terrible to watch back then (not much has changed). My brother, 10 years older, was a Packer fan and I picked up his old copies of Sports Illustrated and read all about the Pack in the ’60s and fell in love with the Green and Gold. All three of my kids are grown now and they followed their Dad in their love of the Pack. A family highlight was a Christmas morning present of tickets to Lambeau for the Bear game on Christmas night a few years ago. Both of my daughters, their boyfriends and a handful of friends went and had a blast!

I met my husband and 1990 while we were both United States Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton. I grew up in South Dakota where there were no professional sports teams, and my dad watched the Dallas Cowboys, I really took no interest in football. When my husband and I moved to La Crosse, WI… his hometown in 1997 my Packer fever began. My first memory was going to the grocery store on Sunday and the game was playing over the loudspeaker. I quickly learned that if you’re going to be a ‘Sconie you were going to love the Packers and the Badgers. My life quickly began to revolve around Packer games. I became fanatical!! A couple of years later I had the honor and privilege of going to a live game at Lambeau Field!!! OMG!!! I begin to take offense when they called the Dallas Cowboys America’s team. Over the last 17 years I have grown to love my Green Bay Packers. The dedication of a true Green Bay Packer fan can only be compared to a patriot that loves the United States of America! I love my country, I love my Packers, and the Green Bay Packers are truly America’s team! GOBPACK GO!!!

I was born into a Giants family. EVERYONE in my family is Giants fans. But as a normal football fan does, regardless of if your team makes the SB, you watch it anyways. The year was 1997. The game, Green Bay Packers vs New England Patriots. Super Bowl XXXI Sunday. My dad had the game on, and I, a seven year old at the time, was watching it with him. I never really watched football because I had no clue what the rules were and didn’t really have a favorite team. At one point during the game, Desmond Howard received the ball at the one yard line on the kickoff, and proceeded to run it all the way for a touchdown. Me being seven, had never seen that, and it absolutely blew my mind. Ever since then I’ve been a fan. Had a Favre jersey when I was eight. Over the years I’ve learned so much about the game, and even the history of the teams. I’ve come to absolutely love this team. And while I try to give all teams respect in there own right, and be a fan of the game, I always stick by my Packers. Gonna be a fan until the day I die.

That’s my story. Hope you enjoyed it. And remember…#GoPackGo!!!

I became a Packers fan in @ Super Bowl XXXI. Not why the Packers won the SB, cause in German Radio the was the cheer of the Packers Coach Mike Holmgren, after the victory over New England in the final…..this was so impressing for me, that i became a Packers fan. After this day I start playing Football in Germany (with 15, now im 34) and Brett Favre became my idol. Now I still play @ the same team as defence coordinator. My dream is still to watch training from the peackers for 1 or 2 weeks and learn something new…..

I grew up in Montana. Regionally, there aren’t any close teams to root for. Half of my family and friends are Broncos fans, and the other half are Seahawks fans (puke).

So I decided I was going to choose my own team. The next-closest teams were the Packers and bears. At the time, Jim McMahon was QB and he seemed like a punk. So I chose the Packers. Best sports decision I ever made!

So I can say I was a fan before Reggie and Brett had ever played there. A few years ago, I got to complete one of my bucket list items… I got to watch the Pack at Lambeau Field. It was their home opener against the Bills in 2010. I have great pick of DD, Rodgers, and Matthews. We won the Super Bowl that year.

I have been a Packers fan since 1993. I live in Houston Tx so i used to pull for the Houston Oilers but when they left to become the Tennessee Titans I felt betrayed so one of my co workers was from Green Bay and she told me about a little know player named Brett Farve and after watching him I fell in love with the Packers and till this day they r the best team I could have rooted for it is true what they say once a winner always a winner. In my eyes the Green Bay Packers are America’s team not the Cowboys. Go Pack Go!!!!!!!!

Favre to sterling sharpe was my go to offense and on defense I would control reggie white. Immediately fell in love with the green n gold and have been a fan since. Not to mention im born and raised in chicago illinois and watching how awful the bears were in the 90s and watching my hero favre upset all my friends and family was great. ill bleed green n gold till the day I die, best franchise in all of sports.
