Brett Favre: “I Can Still Play”

brettBrett Favre had some things to say about his ability at age 45. Speaking on Sports Illustrated’s “Where Are They Now?” series, the former Packer said that though he couldn’t do everything required to lead a team..he could still play.

Brett explains that most of the throws in the game happen at less than 30 yards. And he thinks he still has what it takes to make those throws. Up to 50 yards the retired quarterback still thinks he’s got it. But beyond that his arm isn’t what it used to be. So with that said…could Brett still play? We want to know what Packernation thinks:

I don’t want him to. but I think he could still do better than some others…. MJ retired back in 93 after 3 championships and sat out and then came back and won 3 more…. then he still was feared by everyone. To this day some of the prime players would rather face someone else than Jordan even at his old age…. Lets bring this back to brett farve…. after he was told to leave (basically) he moved on and when he got into the league that played the packers….(Vikings) he beat them at Minn. and in Greenbay. I love Rogers and love that he got to learn from one of the best, but in the end….. Brett Favre had the last say. Go Pack

Brett is in better shape then ever working out with the high school kids. He probably could play better then most of the QB’s out there right now. He is not saying he is coming back, he has finally gotten used to being retired and I for one will never forget all he did for the Packers and how fun he was to watch!!!

Yes, of course he could still play. However, do we want him to is the question? And I personally say, “no.” I wouldn’t want to see him play at a diminished capacity because it would tarnish what he accomplished. What I would love to see however is for him to teach. He needs to get out there and teach that “I can dam well do anything” attitude to other players.

At 45, U.S. old guys all think we’re still young and we ‘still got it’. It’s one of the things that propels us. Nobody argues with us because to ridicule delusional old fools is unkind. Could he still play? Sure… Would it be pretty? Nope!

For those of you who say Brett is in the best shape ever, I say, “C’mon man!” One sack from a twenty-something NFL DE in his prime would show you all how very wrong you are.

The NFL is a tough place where Brett survived for many years. He was amazing. But…There’s a reason the old guys have to retire. It isn’t lack of desire. Their old bodies cannot take or give what they used to. Reality is cruel but nonetheless real.
